DIY: Jewelry Armoire

For a while now I've been into "do it yourself" projects. Especially old furniture and making it something new. Such as chairs, mirrors and my biggest project has been a jewelry armoire. I not only admired having a piece to store my jewelry, but I needed the extra storage. I happened to find a woman off craigslist who was moving, got her to mark down the price on a oak wood jewelry armoire for $80.

The plain oak wood appearance wasn't exactly for me, but I couldn't pass it up because it was a great piece to have that I knew I would be able to keep forever. So I decided to grab some spray paint and redo the whole piece.

Personally krylon is my choice of spray paint, the color I used was brushed nickel. You can get at any hardware or craft store that sells krylon. You can determine how many cans your going to need depending on the size of the piece. You want to make sure that you're in a open area, outside or in a garage. If your in a garage due to the fumes keep the garage door open. Also spraying from a certain distance so you get an coat. Krylon is a quick dry, so it won't be that time consuming especially placing it in the sun. 

Once its completely dry always finish it off with a clear lacquer. It adds shine and prevents it from scratches. I use rust-oleam.
